OVERVIEW
TopCoder, TopCoder Studio and TopCoder Copilot badges represent important achievements members, copilots and contest holders can earn. They are a symbol of pride and accomplishment. The badges are used across the entire platform, although some badges have coloring or symbols that denote a specific area such as Studio or Software. Achievement badges are a natural addition to the popular ranking system in the Software platform and the traditional gallery/showcase of the Studio platform. TopCoder already identifies and captures meaningful achievements for competitors and copilots —badges are a fun and fresh way of spotlighting those accomplishments.
EARNING BADGES
Members can earn everything from beginner accomplishments like “first win” to incredible achievements like “TCO champion”. Most badges are added to the profile as soon as they are earned, while others are added manually based on special conditions.
In addition to competition-based achievements, we're rolling out a series of badges that call out unique work or community-related efforts that outshine everyone else. For copilots, a set of skill badges highlight specialties like “mobile UI design” or “componenet development”. Competitors will get the chance to earn rare and time-sensitive badges that are directly tied to special client projects.
BADGE LOCATION
Badges are primarily shown on the TopCoder websites within a member profile (Studio or Software) or copilot profile. They contain the achievement name and date the achievement was earned in a box that is visible upon mouse hover.
BADGE DESIGN
Each badge shape represents a specific achievement category. The shape helps viewers quickly understand what type of achievement is earned and helps to break up the large set of badges some members collect. Many achievements are also grouped into "meters" or "collections" (see below).
