You can also pick up a hardcopy of the WSJ, the story is on the front page of the Marketplace section.

EDIT: it's also on our site now

Thanks for posting this.

"I, for one, welcome our new geek overlords."

Am I the only one getting tired of us TopCoders being referred to as "geeks"? Us "geeks" make the world go 'round! Stand up and fight for the respect you deserve!

On a related note, my brothers-in-law once said something about me not really being much of a nerd, but a very good geek. I suppose it's related to the fact that I have memorized all the reserved words in Java but not all the characters' names in Star Trek.

I always thought it was the other way around, the definitions. It's confusing.

Well, apparently the Wallstreet Journal agrees with my brothers-in-law's definitions.

No, you're not alone - I get annoyed any time I see "geek", "nerd", or "hackers" used when people really me "programmers" (or "coders", or even worse when they mean "designer" / "developer")...

I don't know, maybe it's because people like to use computers but see them as 'too hard' to understand how they work. Which is intersting, because many people see cars as being hard to understand, yet I've never heard a mechanic being called a geek/nerd...

plus, it's especially amusing when journalists do it - they write for a living too, it's just using a different language ;)
